David was a good friend, always ready for adventure. I am so sad to hear of this tragic story, even more sad for the family that will miss the new dad. He will be missed and remembered.Â

I am sorry to hear about this tragic accident. But just because you are in our freindly islands, doesn't innoculate you from the laws of Mother Nature: Never turn your back to the ocean.Â

I would like to offer that some of these comments are out of extreme frustration. There have been many times when tourists have put the lives of residents in danger by doing something they clearly shouldn't have, and needing to be rescued. That isn't right. If there is anything to be taken from this unfortunate situation, many of us residents would hope that it is a clear message to tourists that you MUST be careful when you are here, because there are serious dangers here. It's not fair to your family or to residents to do things that are unsafe while you are visiting.

Hmmm...another ~$80 Million to promote travel by car? I say put that money into SMART, build out to Cloverdale and Larkspur, and put all those drivers into five or six cars - on rails!
:
IÂ support SMART, but I don't think it will help the congestion we have now. The big issue is Larkspur to SF. You'd need to get a lot more people on bus, ferry and bike to fix that without adding lanes. If you want a lot more people to bike commute to SF, you've got to build the Alto tunnel, which would be cheaper than this.
The blog post, , got people thinking about not driving.

Having lived in Fairfax without a car for 4+ years now, I concur on most of your points. I've given up on transit 95% of the time. I can ride my bike to anywhere in central Marin *faster* than the bus can get me there...and it only leaves Fairfax once an hour, truly. (Yes, there are two busses, but they're 7 minutes apart. That won't last long, will it?)
Yes, everywhere in Marin is hilly; it's a real drag. If you don't have the right bike -- probably a hybrid -- and you don't love the bike you *do* have, you won't ride it and certainly won't enjoy riding it.
