Construction Project Shutters Popular Marin Park

A popular county park will be closed through March 10, city officials said

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A popular county-run park in San Rafael will be temporarily closed during a construction project.

McNears Beach Park will be closed through March 10 as the parking lot is repaved. Additional striping work is expected to be completed by mid-March, county officials said.

Marin County Parks originally paved the parking lot in the 1970s. The improvement project will include fresh asphalt and wider entries to both the main lot and overflow lot.

Project plans approved in June 2021 factored in upgrades to stormwater drainage, including bioretention planters, irrigation systems, and new low-water plantings of shade trees and shrubs.

The project contract was awarded to Bauman Landscape and Construction, Inc., in August of last year.
