Coyotes Sighted on Suffield Avenue

Follow these tips to avoid attracting wildlife.

A large coyote was reported seen on Suffield Avenue at 6:34 a.m. this morning. A resident reported seeing the coyote standing in their driveway. It was not aggressive and walked away after seeing the resident.

Officers were unable to locate the coyote and went door-to-door distributing a California Department of Fish and Game pamphlet with tips to avoid attracting coyotes.

  • Do not feed the deer. It is illegal in California.
  • Do not allow pets outside -- particularly at dawn, dusk or night.
  • Bring pet food inside to avoid attracting coyotes, raccoons or opossums. 

If you encounter a coyote:

  • Do not run.
  • Face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms.
  • If necessary, throw rocks or other objects at the coyote to scare it away.
  • If attacked, fight back.
