Fatal Marin Crash Victim ID'd

MARIN COUNTY, CA — A female pedestrian fatally struck by a drunk driving suspect Tuesday night in unincorporated San Rafael has been identified as Kari Marboe, 37 of San Rafael, officials said Friday.

Brian David Phillips, 39 of San Rafael, was arrested in connection with the crash, the California Highway Patrol said earlier this week.

Phillips was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and causing great bodily injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, CHP Officer Darrel Horner said.

The collision on Rubicon Court was reported to authorities at 9:23 p.m., the CHP said.

Marboe at the time of the crash was standing in the roadway, directly in ahead of the Land Rover, for reasons investigators have not yet determined, the CHP said.

She was struck by the left side of the Land Rover.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

The driver of the Land Rover remained on scene and was not injured, the CHP said.

"While investigating the incident, it was determined the driver of the Land Rover was driving while under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DUI and other pending charges," the CHP said.

"This is an ongoing investigation."
