New Fairfax Fitness Class Taps Into Ancient Practice
Chi Gong is the ancient Chinese practice of movement and meditation that's rooted in the balance and harmony of nature.
FAIRFAX, CA — A new Fairfax exercise class aims to tap into techniques developed in ancient times to help residents cope with the challenges of a modern world.
The town’s inaugural Chi Gong (also known as Qigong) class is scheduled to be held Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bolinas Park.

The practice emphasis the spiritual aspect of health.
“Chi” is the vital life force energy that animates all living beings.

“Through gentle exercises we learn to cultivate and direct the flow of Chi within ourselves and draw from the Universal Chi all around us,” town officials said in a statement promoting the class.
The class is part of the town’s Age Friendly Classes & Events program.
The class is open to beginners and those of all ages but will focus on adults and older adults.
The class costs $75 for the month of March.

Chi Gong proponents say the practice promotes physical and mental health, enhances the immune system, improves balance and strength, and relieves pain and stress.
“Empower yourself to health!” town officials said.
“Now more than ever, it is important to keep our Spiritual Practices strong.”
