Upgrades Underway At The Fairfax Library
Crews will be working to bring the library's fire and smoke systems up to code, which will mean a few interruptions in the coming months.

FAIRFAX, CA — Patrons of the Fairfax Library will notice some construction work in the coming weeks as crews get started on some big safety improvements at the facility, which was built in 1976.
According to the Marin County Free Library, the county's Department of Public Works will be installing new smoke detection and fire impression systems until late July. Crews will be bringing the building's smoke and fire systems up to code and connecting the library to a potable water line.
Exterior work is already underway, and the library anticipates early interruptions will be limited to some reduced parking. Work to connect the water line will require an eastbound lane closure during business hours from April 24 to April 26.

Interior work is slated for late May, and a full library closure is scheduled for May 15 - 24. The library is expected to reopen on May 25 with new hours of noon to 8 p.m.
The project's price tag is $850,000, which is funded through a parcel tax approved by voters in November.
