A Day in the Life of a San Bruno Lifeguard

When you think about what a lifeguard does, what's the first thing that comes to mind?

Baywatch? Think again.

Although they get to sit out in the sun all day and swim, being a lifeguard at the San Bruno Park Pool isn't all glitz and glamor.

In fact, the lifeguards have to undergo intensive training and often spend most of their time sitting in a chair. One of their job duties also includes cleaning the floor mats in the bathrooms everyday.

But they do get to save people and wear sunglasses, which makes their jobs important and unique, and that's what makes being a lifeguard a fun summer job.

For San Bruno, lifeguards have to be 15 years old and have at least 50 hours of training before they can even start work. The city also has a junior lifeguard program for youths ages 11-14 that teaches them lifeguarding skills and how to teach swim lessons (along with the lifeguards).
