City Council, School Board Members to Face Challengers in November Election
Residents will also be voting on whether to pass a $40 million bond measure for the San Bruno Park School District for the Nov. 8 election.
One candidate has put his hat in the ring to challenge two City Council members who have decided to run again in the November election.
Meanwhile, a well known civic leader and a former schools trustee have decided to run for the board election to challenge the two incumbents who are up for re-election.
The deadline to file papers for the election was 5 p.m. today, and one resident submitted his paperwork for the City Council race.

Constantino Anezinos, who owns Zorba's Pizza in Millbrae, will be running against Vice Mayor Michael Salazar, who was appointed to the council when Jim Ruane was elected mayor in 2009, and Councilwoman Irene O'Connell, who has been on the council since 1995. The top two voter-getters will get elected.
Ruane will be running unopposed for mayor.

Joseph Capote—a Realtor who is a board member for the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce and San Bruno Education Foundation, and a Patch contributor—and Charles "Chuck" Zelnik, a former San Bruno Park School District board member, are running against school board trustees Jennifer Blanco and Kevin Martinez, whose terms both end in December. Zelnik stepped down from his post after six years in 2006 and ran in the following two elections but didn't win, according to the San Mateo Daily Journal.
The school district also has a on the Nov. 8 ballot, which, if passed, would give the district much-needed assistance with improving facilities throughout the city.
According to the school district, the bond measure will fund the following projects:
- modernizing classrooms and school facilities
- replacing outdated heating systems throughout the district
- upgrading playfields and playground equipment
- making energy efficient improvements
The measure needs 55 percent voter approval to pass.
