Committee Set to Rank Criteria for School Closure Recommendation

The recommendation to the San Bruno Park School District for a possible school closure is expected to happen next month.

For weeks now, the San Bruno Park School District committee tasked with discussing school closures has been trying to figure out how it will eventually make a recommendation to the school board.

That recommendation will be made by considering nine factors, ranging from consideringΒ the operating costs of each school to what would happen if the walking distance for students was changed to what would beΒ the implications of sending all students back to their β€œhome school?”

At the next , to be held at Allen Elementary, the group will be taking another hard look at those considerations by ranking them in order of importance. The members of the committee were asked to get feedback from their schools about the ranking system before the meeting.

According to the agenda for the meeting, the ranking of the criteria will use an

analogy ofΒ having 100 pennies and they could put their pennies any way they wanted into nine β€œjars”. Β At thisΒ meeting, the 700 pennies will be used to rank the criteria from most important to least important. Β From there, the seven elementary schools will be ranked as to how they compare to the nineΒ criteria. Β
