Council to Discuss Parking Changes, Housing Development

Traffic concerns on the east side of San Bruno prompt calls for no-parking zones. Also, the city requires a developer to comply with several agreements before starting construction.

Proposed parking changes and a new housing development on Cedar Avenue are on today's City Council agenda.

Under one action item, the council will be discussing whether to create new parking restrictions on Atlantic Avenue and Bayshore Circle North.

The Fire Department has requested that the current loading zone on the north side of Atlantic Avenue between San Mateo and Montgomery avenues be changed into a no-parking zone. When vehicles park in the loading zone, the Fire Department said, it makes the street too narrow for fire trucks to get through.

However, city staff said that eliminating parking on the north side of that block would hinder the businesses in that area that rely on deliveries.

As a resolution, the city is recommending that a no-parking zone be created but that a 40-foot-long loading zone also be created on the south side of Atlantic Avenue.

The city is also recommending that a 20-foot-long no-parking zone be created east of 80 Bayshore Circle North after a resident expressed concern about too many drivers making left turns onto Bayshore Circle from Herman Avenue and hitting parked cars on the street.

A has been proposed for the 1.9 acre-vacant space formerly occupied by Peninsula Christian Fellowship on Cedar Avenue. The developer, Lennar Homes, which took over the property after the previous homebuilder went out of business, is proposing to build 14 homes on the lot, which is on the corner of Cedar and Pepper Drive.

Now that the project has been approved by the Planning Commission, the city is requiring that the developer move forward with several agreements, if the council approves them, while it begins on initial construction.

The is at 7 p.m. at the senior center. There will also be a study session at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the reconstruction and infrastructure plans for the Crestmoor neighborhood.
