How Could San Bruno Schools Get $2 Million a Year?

San Bruno parents have been busy collecting signatures for the that aims to raise more than $10 billion a year for California schools.

The tax initiative, called "Our Children, Our Future," which is being sponsored by Southern California civil rights attorney Molly Munger and the California State PTA, proposes to raise income taxes on a sliding scale for 12 years on people who make more than $25,000 a year.

It also is being touted as a better alternative to the "millionaires tax" that was proposed by Gov. Jerry Brown and has the backing of the California Federation of Teachers.

The parents here, including San Bruno Park schools trustee Jennifer Blanco, are trying to get 200 signatures to help reach the statewide goal of 800,000 signatures in order to get the Our Children, Our Future initiative on the November ballot.

So just how much would each San Bruno school get if the measure passed? The Our Children, Our Future campaign has a calculator on its website that gives people a chance to find out the funding amount. For example, San Bruno Park School District would supposedly get $2,255,504 in the 2013-14 school year if the initiative passed.
