Letter to the Editor: In Defense of Crestmoor Elementary
A reader gives her thoughts about the suggestion that a San Bruno Park school, in particular Crestmoor Elementary, should be closed.

I don't wantΒ anyΒ school in San Bruno to close.Β
It is unfortunate that the district cannot come up with another alternative.Β
However, since Total School Solutions and the District Advisory Committee have targeted Crestmoor, I'd like to mention a few things in Crestmoor's defense.Β

First, Crestmoor has a diverse population with no ethnic group contributing more than 40 percent of the population. Second, Crestmoor has a strong tie with the San Bruno Skilled Nursing home, with classes visiting and interacting with residents monthly.
Third, Crestmoor has participated in the Pennies for Patients Program which benefits the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society. This past year our generous families and students raised $2,600!Β

Fourth, Crestmoor has the potential for expansion.
Finally, the Glenview area feeds into Crestmoor. The families have endured a long, disruptive year and half. For students who attend Crestmoor, it has been their constant while dealing with change.
Again, I do not want any school to close. I hope there is another solution.
