Parkside Students Break Down 'The Watsons'
This month, artwork from a seventh grade language arts class at Parkside Intermediate, along with art projects from all San Bruno Park schools, is featured at the district office.
teacher Sarah Spears recently had her seventh grade language arts class readΒ Christopher Paul Curtis's novel, The Watsons Go to Birmingham.
To drive the lesson home, Spears asked each student in the class to disect the book by doing character analyses, a technique used to help students describe the personalities of the characters in a book. The novel tells the ficitional story of a black family from Michigan that takes a trip to the Deep South and finds itself in the midst of the factual events that happened during the violent summer of 1963.
The artistic diagrams the students created as part of that lesson are now on display at the office.
