Poll: Are School Closure Talks Focused on Wrong Issue?
A San Mateo Daily Journal editorial raises the question: Shouldn't the San Bruno Park School District tackle its budget issues before thinking about closing a school?

The San Mateo Daily Journal had an interesting editorial today that questioned the San Bruno Park School District's reasons for considering school closures.
The editorial's central point was that the school district still hasn't explained how closing a school would provide enough money to fix its budget issues. Superintendent David Hutt has maintained thatΒ the school closure discussions were prompted by the fact that the district has been facing declining enrollment and inadequate funding from the state.
District officials have therefore been focusing on the wrong issue, the Daily Journal said.

"If the decision is based on finances, then it is a topic the Board of Trustees should tackle first rather than rattle an entire school community and neighborhood already recovering from the tragic 2010 pipeline explosion and fire," the editorial said.
