School Highlights: Gymtown, Walk-a-Thon and New Arts Building Open

Parkside: Parkside Middle School is pleased to offer school tours for incoming families on the following dates:

• Friday, April 27
• Wednesday, May 9 

Tours are for parents only will start promptly at 8:30 a.m. and will last 45 minutes. Interested families may sign up for one of these dates by sending an email to parent volunteer Teri Vo at terivo@yahoo.com. 

Book Fair: Stay on alert: the Book Fair is coming. It will be from May 17-24. We would love some volunteers to help out, so please see Teresa Hoyer or email us at crest_mail@sbpsd.k12.ca.us.

Gymtown Fun Night: Fliers recently went out for Gymtown Fun Night, which will be held on April 28 from 6:30-10 p.m. This is a real bargain: for 3 ½ hours of playtime, the cost is only $25 for one child, $40 for two, and $60 for three or more. Not only that, pizza, fruit, snacks, and water will be provided. The event will be an absolute blast but there are only a limited number of tickets that will be sold. So purchase your tickets while they last—by April 24 at the latest!

TDAP Shot: A TDAP shot is REQUIRED for students entering seventh grade. This immunization is required by law. Call Mrs. Peckham at 650-624-3160 if you have questions.

Walk-A-Thon Friday, May 25: This Walk-A-Thon is being held instead of our annual silent auction. It is very important that we have 100 percent participation. Every family is asked to bring in a minimum of $50 in pledges. Pledges are to be collected ahead of time and are a straight donation. Envelopes and pledge sheets will be sent Friday, April 24.

Student Stars in 'Honk!': One of our first grade students will play the part of Bewick in the Bay Area Educational Theater’s musical, "Honk!" Honk is based on Hans Christian Anderson’s, "The Ugly Duckling." Jacob performs at Cañada College on April 27 and April 29 at 2 p.m. Additional performances are April 28 and April 22 at 2 p.m. Purchase tickets at www.bayareaetc.org.

School Picnic June 1: If you have wanted to spend a day at school, then this is the day! We need many helpers.

Principal Matters: The month of April marks the end to college acceptances and many of our seniors got accepted into esteemed universities and colleges and we want to say congratulations! It is also during this time that some of our seniors realize that they did not get into their top choices, but I think it should be noted that their college preparatory experiences at Capuchino will pay off in the long run. Success in life has more to do with the ability to persevere than the name of your college, so it is my hope that our seniors take the good and bad news all in stride and pursue their dreams....

Finally, with six weeks of school to go, you will notice several activities on the horizon. School activities include: Lockdown Safety Drill, Visit to St. Roberts to showcase our school, Latinos Unidos Dance, Spring Concert and Dance Show. We hope to see you in the near future and we thank you for helping to bring this year to a smooth end. Arts Satellite Now Open: The time has finally come and we are happy to announce that the Arts Satellite is officially open! We also want to take this time to recognize the efforts of our very own Maria Sky, who is responsible for writing a grant back in 2007 and seeing this building come to fruition. The Arts Satellite will be home to our Ceramics program, led by Susan Truman, and home to our Arts and Multi-Media program, led by Ms. Sky. Again, we couldn’t be more excited to have this new facility for our students and school community.
