Three Candidates Seeking Appointment to San Bruno Park School Board

Three people turned in applications to be appointed members of the San Bruno Park School District Board of Trustees.  The opening on the board was the result of long time member Skip Henderson stepping down on May 1.

The candidates, all men, are Patrick Flynn, an engineer, Russ Hanley, who is retired and Charles Zelnik who works for a drywall company.

Zelnik is a former board member who wants to focus his energy on improving the budget process.  “”When I served on the school board money was also tight, but we worked together and the student performance scores kept improving,” said Zelnik on his application.”

Hanley is also a former board member who is interested in school financing.   When asked, What do you see as the area(s) most needing improvement? His answer on the application was, “Continuing need to find adequate financing, doing a better job of informing the community that what affects schools affects us all.

Flynn is the only applicant who doesn’t have previous experience as a school board member and has lived in the district for 42 years.  He sees communication with the community as the key to a better district.  “The district needs to engage with the community and collaborate to build a trusting relationship for future success,” said Flynn on his application.
