Trial Delayed for Cypress Avenue Homicide
A judge vacated the anticipated May trial date after doctors' reports about one of the suspected killer's sanity weren't ready.

The trial for the two men accused of killing a 23-year-old San Bruno man last year has been delayed after reports about the sanity of one of the alleged assailants weren't ready on time, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.Β
Nicholas Vargas, 25, of San Bruno was supposed to appear in court Tuesday to follow up on his not guilty plea by reason of insanity, which he entered in January. The court appointed two doctors to evaluate his mental health at the time of the alleged homicide of Christopher Chastain.Β
But the doctors' reports haven't been finished, so a judge vacated the May 21 trial date, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti.Β

Vargas is expected to be back in court on April 26, when the doctors' reports on his sanity will be released, Guidotti said.Β
Both Vargas and Brandon Thompson, the other alleged assailant in the homicide, are then expected to appear in court on May 7 when a judge will set a new date for the trial, Guidotti said.
