UC Set to Have Its Own YouTube Channel

The University of California system's channel on YouTube, based in San Bruno, is part of a larger initiative by the company to launch nearly 100 original channels to offer people a wider array of entertainment.

The San Francisco Business Times has reported that the University of California system will launch its own YouTube channel in March.

The channel will feature content such asΒ documentaries, interviews, commentaries and video shorts based on events and research at all 10 university campuses as well as its medical schools like UCSF, according to the Business Times.Β 

This year, YouTube, based in San Bruno, has been opening up its platform at a rapid pace toΒ well-known personalities and content producers from the TV, film, music, news, and sports fields, as well as some of YouTube’s own existing partners, to provide entertainment that ultimately could compete with the cable television industry.

YouTube already has nearly 100 original channels set to launch. Some of the participants include Madonna, formerΒ NBAΒ starΒ Shaquille O'Neal, actorΒ Ashton Kutcher, "Office" starΒ Rainn Wilson, spiritual doctorΒ Deepak ChopraΒ and "Modern Family" actress Sofia Vergara.Β
