Caring For Elephants: San Carlos Photos Of The Week
Eleanor Rosmando of San Carlos traveled to Thailand to work at an elephant sanctuary as part of her studies at UC Davis.
SAN CARLOS, CA — Eleanor Rosmando of San Carlos, a sophomore at the University of California, Davis, was part of a team that traveled over the summer to Thailand to work with rescued elephants at a sanctuary.
For one week, Eleanor joined volunteers from around the world at the Elephant Nature Park in northern Thailand to work hands-on with the giant animals and learn about animal rescue and conservation on a larger scale. Her daily tasks included feeding and caring for the elephants, while learning about their diagnoses alongside an elephant vet.
“Not only did this trip fulfill my childhood dream of seeing an elephant, but I got to learn all new skills I would not have gotten to do otherwise,” said the 20-year-old, animal-science major.

The Elephant Nature Park is home to more than 60 elephants rescued from trekking, logging or forced breeding programs, many having suffered abuse that led to chronic injuries or blindness.
Eleanor's trip was hosted by Loop Abroad Veterinary Service, a pre-veterinary, study-abroad program in the U.S.
