Don't Compost? No Problem, the City's Got You Covered

San Carlos residents can pick up free compost year-round at RethinkWaste.

Residents in the City of San Carlos and the 12 agency RethinkWaste service area can get free compost, daily, year-round at the Shoreway Environmental Center at 333 Shoreway Road in San Carlos, courtesy of South Bay Recycling, the operators of the Shoreway Transfer Station & Recycling Center.

Residents simply need to go to the scale house (accessible via Gate 1) and show proof of residency in the form of a utility bill or identification card to the attendant. Residents will then be provided with up to two (2) 3-cubic feet empty paper bags for the compost. They will then be directed to the Transfer Station to get the compost. Residents need to fill the bags themselves. Shovels are provided.

Limit 2 bags per visit. The free compost is for residents only, not for commercial use.
