• Plans to expand school for dyslexia in Belmont hits pushback (smdailyjournal.com) — San Carlos and Belmont residents are pushing back against a proposed expansion of the Charles Armstrong School in Belmont, just over the San Carlos border, citing traffic, noise, and neighborhood impacts. The dyslexia-focused school wants to add 30 students and build new classroom and gym facilities after decades without major campus changes, reviving a debate that previously halted expansion in 2005.
   

• New California fee targets batteries in PlayStations, power tools and singing cards (hsjchronicle.com) — A devastating 2016 battery fire at San Carlos’ Shoreway Environmental Center helped spur California’s new 1.5% fee on products with built‑in batteries, now in effect statewide. The surcharge, capped at $15, funds safer collection and recycling to reduce dangerous lithium‑ion fires that have driven up local waste‑management costs for San Carlos and neighboring communities.
