Pedestrian Killed In Christmas Eve Crash In San Carlos
Police said the victim was struck by two vehicles on Christmas Eve morning, and the second driver fled the scene before being caught.
SAN CARLOS, CA — A Redwood City man died on Christmas Eve after he was hit by two vehicles while crossing a street in San Carlos, according to the sheriff's office.
In a news release, investigators said the man was crossing the roadway near the 1400 block of El Camino Real shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday. Deputies arrived at the scene and learned a 27-year-old man was driving north when he struck the 69-year-old pedestrian. Despite efforts by medics at the scene, the victim was declared dead.
The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

The sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene, finding the driver to be fully cooperative, and said he did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, further investigation revealed the victim was hit by a second driver who fled the scene.
According to the sheriff's office, detectives quickly found the second vehicle in Redwood City and took the driver into custody. Investigators identified the suspect as Hok Gwan Jong, 66, of San Mateo, who was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
