2020 AND 2021 SAN CLEMENTE LIFEGUARD OF THE YEAR RECIPIENTS RECEIVE AWARDS
5/20/2022…San Clemente, California… On Thursday, May 19, 2022, the San Clemente Exchange Club hosted its annual Lifeguard of the Year ceremony where it honored the 2020 and 2021 recipients San Clemente Ocean Lifeguard Supervisors Raselle Chetwynd (2020) and Jaden Blanc-Hall (2021).

Sponsors of the event included Conrad Realtors, Terry Senate Surfboards, San Clemente Lifeguard and Junior Guard Foundation, and Rainbow Sandals. Both honorees were presented with a new custom Terry Senate surfboard inscribed with their name, a plaque by the San Clemente Exchange Club, and a custom piece of art painted by local artist, Kelan O’Brien. Mayor Gene James presented Raselle and Jaden with Mayors Coins and gave a speech in recognition of their achievement. Mayor Pro Tem Chris Duncan, Council Member Laura Ferguson, Council Member Steve Knoblock, Council Member Kathleen Ward, City Manager Erik Sund, and Beaches, Parks, & Recreation Director Samantha Wylie were in attendance to Honor Raselle Chetwynd and Jaden Blanc-Hall for their service to Marine Safety.
The Lifeguard of the Year award is a peer-nominated voting-based award that began in 1979. Marine Safety Captain Rod Mellot spoke about the two honorees, sharing that they are exemplary members of the Marine Safety Division and contribute valuable skills to the team. Raselle and Jaden both joined the City of San Clemente’s Marine Safety team in 2014 and have been promoted through the ranks to become Ocean Lifeguard Supervisors. Raselle is the first female to be awarded Lifeguard of the Year in the 42 years of the awards. The City of San Clemente is honored to have these two extraordinary Ocean Lifeguard Supervisors on its Marine Safety team who exemplify professionalism, an unwavering commitment to safety, and demonstrate bravery while protecting our San Clemente beaches.
