Abandoned Panga Boat Washes Up On San Clemente Shore Saturday

Authorities are investigating the incident as possible evidence of human smuggling, the Orange County Register reported.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A 35-foot panga boat containing life jackets that washed ashore in north San Clemente early Saturday is being investigated as a human smuggling incident, the Orange County Register reported.

The empty boat was pushed onto San Clemente shores while beach goers stopped to stare at the strange sight, the OC Register reported. Jaime Ruiz, spokesperson with US Customs and Border Protection, said the boat could have carried as many as 20 people.

No drugs were found on the boat.
