TRYOUTS SCHEDULED FOR CITY OCEAN LIFEGUARD POSITIONS

Monday, February 7, 2022…San Clemente, California…The City of San Clemente Marine Safety Division is gearing up for the upcoming summer season and is seeking qualified individuals to join its lifeguard team. Tryouts for seasonal ocean lifeguard and lifeguard trainee positions will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Marine Safety Division Headquarters, located on the beach north of the pier at 620 Avenida Del Mar. Check-in for tryouts is at 7 a.m. Applicants will compete in an approximate 800-yard ocean swim in 13½ minutes or less. Successful candidates will then compete in a 1,200-yard run-swim-run. The use of wetsuits, goggles, fins, or other swimming aids is not permitted. The top candidates from the physical tests will be invited to an interview on the same day. The top candidates from the interview process will be invited to participate in a mandatory 92-hour training program held consecutively on Saturdays and Sundays, March 26 – April 24.

To be eligible to apply, candidates must be at least 16 years old with a valid work permit by June 1, 2022, and must be available for all 92 hours of training. Applicants under the age of 18 must have a signed parental consent form prior to participating in tryouts. Applicants must either complete an online application at www.san-clemente.org/jobs or apply in-person at Marine Safety Division Headquarters. The Ocean Lifeguard position is paid $18.24 to $22.17 and the entry level Lifeguard Trainee pay is $15.00 per hour.
