San Clemente Man Arrested After Driving Into A Family, Killing Infant

Authorities arrested the 54-year-old driver on suspicion of driving under the influence, Fox 11 reported.

SANTA MARGARITA, CA — An infant is dead, and his parents were hospitalized with serious injuries when a driver hopped the curb and plowed into the family in Rancho Santa Margarita Sunday afternoon.

The driver of a Hyundai Sonata drove along the sidewalk on Antonio Parkway for several hundred feet before striking the parents and their infant in a baby stroller, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver, 54-year-old Daniel Lenihan, of San Clemente, was hospitalized and arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, the CHP told FOX 11.

The crash happened on Antonio Parkway at Oaktree, in a residential area north of Oso Parkway, around 4:15 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics with the Orange County Fire Authority arrived on the scene to find the injured family and a nearby sedan with a shattered windshield stopped partially up the embankment alongside the sidewalk.

The victims included a 34-year-old man, a 31 -year-old woman and the couple's 11-month-old baby boy.
