South Orange County Nonprofit Gives $56K In Scholarships

The Assistance League of Capistrano Valley gave $56,300 in scholarships to local students across South Orange County.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — For over forty years now, the Assistance League of Capistrano Valley has been supporting families in need. This June, the nonprofit announced that it would be awarding $56,300 in scholarships to local students across South Orange County.

The recipients of the scholarships include graduating high school seniors of military families in Capistrano Valley, and single parents attending Saddleback College enrolled in the CalWORKS program.

“Our organization strives to meet the needs in our community,” ALCV President Cheryl Warnagieris said in a news release. “We recognize hard work and are delighted to award these students with scholarships that will have a lasting impact for years to come.”

The scholarships were funded through ALCV's program INSPIRE, which awards scholarships to Saddleback CalWORKS students. According to a news release, the program's goal is to provide aid to single parents, change their lives and provide good role models for their children.

Since 2014, the INSPIRE program has awarded $111,580 in scholarships to 30 applicants.

“With this scholarship, my perseverance is recognized as I continue to pursue my educational and career goals. Recognitions like these are so warming to the heart, thank you," A scholarship recipient said.
