55-Hour Ortega Highway Shutdown This Weekend: OC To Lake Elsinore
Travel from Orange County to Riverside County will stall out this weekend as the Ortega Highway closes for construction.
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A full 55-hour closure of state Route 74 — from the Nichols Institute in San Juan Capistrano to the Orange County line — begins Friday night.
The March 11-14 closure starts at 9 p.m. Friday and continues through 4 a.m. Monday as part of the ongoing Safety Improvement Project that began last year.
Motorists are advised that travel from Orange County to Riverside County will be impossible during the construction. Motorists traveling on the Ortega Highway to Riverside County this weekend are asked to obey electronic signs informing drivers of alternate routes, CalTrans said.

The closure only impacts Orange County to Riverside County access, and motorists leaving Riverside County will have access to Ortega Highway throughout the weekend.
