After-Hours Repair Work On Metrolink Ramps Up Oct. 1

Residents living near Metrolink train tracks may hear machinery noises and vibrations as crews make "extensive upgrades" to the railway.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — What's that sound? Fear not, residents of San Juan Capistrano. The noises you may be hearing at night are Metrolink crews at work. Starting Oct. 1, Metrolink is sending its crews out to the railway track in order to do "extensive upgrades" along the track's Orange County Line from Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo to San Clemente, Metrolink announced Friday.

The weekend/weeknight after-hour maintenance work is expected to wrap up by Oct. 21.

In San Juan Capistrano, the construction takes place between Ortega Highway and San Juan Creek Trail. Maintenance work will occur during 6 p.m. through 5 a.m. from Oct. 1 to Oct. 7 and Oct. 15 to Oct. 18.

During this time, residents may hear noises from repair equipment, including backup alarms and heavy machinery. Metrolink crews will also have light towers in construction areas.

The maintenance work comes after Metrolink and Surfliner services to the San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente and Oceanside stations were shut down in September due to emergency track work.
