Capo Unified Teacher Named Finalist For Presidential Award

The Capo Unified math teacher is one of three finalists in her category, Capistrano Unified School District Insider reported.

RANCHO MISSION VIEJO, CA — An Esencia Elementary School teacher was honored earlier this month after she was named a state finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, CUSD Insider reported.

Teacher Leslie Whitaker is one of three state finalists in the math category. She is currently a math teacher on special assignment at Esencia, and has been teaching with the Capistrano Unified School District since 1999. This is the second time Whitaker was named a finalist for the national award.

Results for the award will be announced later this year, CUSD Insider reported.

“Leslie is an enthusiastic and dedicated professional, committed to ensuring great outcomes for students,” Brad Shearer, CUSD Assistant Superintendent, told CUSD Insider. “She is a strong teacher leader who has provided invaluable training and support for her peers.
