Family Safely Evacuated From House Fire In South OC After Candle Fire

A San Juan Capistrano family escaped their home without injury after it caught fire, authorities said Monday morning.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A San Juan Capistrano family escaped their home without injury after it caught fire, authorities said Monday morning.

The fire was reported at 9:45 p.m. Sunday in the 31100 block of Calle San Pedro, the Orange County Fire Authority said.

A mother and her daughter quickly evacuated the home, and arriving firefighters made sure no one was injured, including the family cat and dog, officials said.

Firefighters extinguished the flames within a thirty minutes of their arrival, and the American Red Cross was contacted to help the residents, officials said.

According to fire officials, the cause of the fire was found to be candles that lit nearby combustibles. Damage to the home was estimated between $400,000 and $100,000, authorities said.
