The San Juan Capistrano Mission Gets A Boost After Lagging Donations During The Pandemic
After the coronavirus shut down evaporated funding, the San Juan Capistrano Mission is now getting pandemic-relief funds.
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO —The historic mission is open again, after closing for the first time in 100 years due to the lockdown.
To help the mission, the staff applied for and received federal COVID-19 relief funding, according to this article in The Capistrano Dispatch. According to that report, the majority of its funding sources dried up over the past almost two years.
The mission is one of 28 regional locales - under the umbrella of entertainment, theaters and museums – that will receive part of the $19 million in relief funds, according to the Dispatch. How much will go directly to the mission remains to be seen, and all funding will stem from the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program.
