SigAlert On 5 Freeway: Car Fire Shuts Down Two Lanes
A car fire on the California State route 5 traveling south has resulted in a half-hour long SigAlert, affecting two lanes on the freeway.
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A raging car fire engulfed a gray SUV on the California State route 5 south Friday afternoon, shutting down two lanes on the freeway and slowing traffic considerably, California Highway Patrol reported.
The car had three passengers inside of it when the engine began to release smoke. Flames followed soon afterward, and CHP reported that the passengers and driver were able to exit the car. According to CHP, the SUV was completely engulfed in flames and fire authorities were called to the scene.
The SigAlert was issued at 3:57 p.m. and will last for about a half hour while authorities work to clear the scene, CHP reported.

Commuters are encouraged to avoid this part of the freeway while responders work to clear the freeway.
