Upcoming Closures On 5 Freeway: Detours, What To Know

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — South Orange County commuters, be advised: more construction work is underway on the Interstate 5 as a part of Caltrans's freeway expansion project, Caltrans announced Wednesday.

This weekend, the Alicia Parkway northbound off-ramp and on-ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Construction is slotted to begin Friday and end early Monday morning.

The freeway will also be closed in both directions Monday and Tuesday as a part of the expansion project, Caltrans announced Wednesday.

The full closures impact the stretch of freeway between Alicia Parkway and El Toro Road, Caltrans said. The full closures take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., with lane restrictions beginning as early as 8 p.m. on both nights.

Crews plan to relocate utility lines during the construction hours, Caltrans said.
