Accused Fatal Hit-And-Run Driver Arrested

SAN LEANDRO, CA — The alleged driver in a fatal hit-and-run collision in San Leandro on Wednesday was arrested on Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, CHP officers responded to a report of a male pedestrian lying in the roadway at Lewelling Boulevard and Embers Way, a surface road immediately west of Interstate Highway 880, just inside the city of San Leandro limits.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, a CHP spokesperson said in a video posted on the Hayward Office's social media channels.

The vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene but was allegedly identified after an investigation. It was spotted by CHP patrol officers in Hayward on Friday afternoon and allegedly had signs of being involved in the fatal collision.

The driver, identified by jail records as Than Moeun, a 59-year-old landscaper, was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail on allegations of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit-and-run causing injury or death.

Moeun is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the East County Hall of Justice, department 702, in Dublin. His bail was set at $125,000.

The investigation is ongoing. CHP urged anyone with information to contact the Hayward Office at (510) 489-1500.
