SAN LEANDRO, CA — Rose buses have been blooming beautifully this spring, and as you admire the flowers in your yard, you may be interested in starting more bushes from your star performers.
San Leandro's own Alameda County Master Gardener, Miyo Burnett, rooted two roses last May that she plucked from her sister's garden.
Here are her step-by-step instructions, along with photos.

Step 1: Two roses to be rooted from her sister's garden — the yellow is "Julia Child" while the pink is unknown, a gift to her. Gather these supplies: one Russet potato, honey, potting mix combined with garden soil.
Step 2: Make a fresh cut on the bottom of the rose stems, then strip them of flowers and leaves. Dip the ends in honey. Poke small holes in the potato, insert the stems, then bury the potato in a pot of soil.
