Lake Temescal in Oakland Closed to Swimmers Due to Toxic Algae Blooms

Exposure to the algae can also be fatal for dogs.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Two lakes in Alameda County have been closed to swimming due to outbreaks of toxic algae, according to a statement released Tuesday by the East Bay Regional Park District.

Lake Temescal in Oakland and Quarry Lakes in Fremont remain open for fishing, but exposure to the toxic algae in the water can cause rashes, allergic reactions, gastrointestinal problems and irritation in the skin and
eyes. Exposure to the algae can also be fatal for dogs.

Swimmers can still use Lake Del Valle in Livermore and Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton at their own risk.
Lake Anza in Berkeley has been closed due to toxic algae since August, according to the district.
