SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro is celebrating the success of its Food Scrap Recycling Program by offering free compost to residents who register to participate.
"The food scraps, food soiled paper, and yard trimmings that you put into your green yard trimmings cart are turned into a rich soil amendment that nourishes plants and keeps your garden healthy," the city said, adding that residents can obtain a maximum of two bags of compost per household during the two day-event scheduled for April 21 and 22.
Appointments are required and drop-ins will not be accepted, the city said in a news release about the event.
