Be mindful of slick roads, roadway flooding, and rising creeks. If your neighborhood has experienced flooding in the past, take extra precautions. Call the City if you see trouble spots. If you need to grab a broom or shovel to clear a storm drain, your quick action could prevent damage to your property or your neighbor's.

San Leandro's Public Information Officer, Paul Sanftner, passed along this list of tips and resources:

Get a rake! It’s leaf season, so many leaves have just dropped in yards and streets and will be quickly headed to a storm drain once the rain starts falling. Rake into piles and deposit leaves from yards in organics (green) carts.

Check drains: Rake leaves and debris from storm drain screens to ensure water can flow through the system in a storm event. Deposit this debris in your garbage (gray) cart, as roadway pollutants are likely contaminating these materials.

Sandbags: There is sand and bags available to residents at the Public Works Service Center at 14200 Chapman Road outside of the gate. Bags must be filled by the resident. Residents with disabilities can obtain pre-filled sandbags at 14200 Chapman Rd. Please call 510-577-3440 before you arrive to reduce your wait time.

Stay alert: Keep up on the latest weather information. The City of San Leandro posts emergency information on their social media pages, San Leandro Community Television (Comcast channel 15, Uverse 99, and SanLeandro.org/TV), and the local radio channel AM 1610.

Report it: Report flooding or downed trees or limbs to the Public Works Department at 510-577-3440 during business hours (7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. M-F), and call Police dispatch after hours and on weekends at 510-577-2740. Link: SanLeandro.org/Storm
