SAN LEANDRO, CA — After a couple of weeks of being spoiled with near-perfect weather, this week has been an adjustment for gardeners.

Miyo Burnett has been getting everything done in her yard before 10 a.m. in an effort to beat the heat.

On Thursday, that included picking Concord grapes and grape leaves for dolmades, all under the watchful eye of Buddy. Or was he watching the back of his eyelids?

Miyo shared her recipe for prepping grape leaves for the freezer so that they can be stuffed in the future. She has big plans for New Year's!

  1. Thoroughly wash leaves in salted water. Rinse.
  2. Cook leaves in salted water until they just turn yellow.
  3. Dry, carefully stack in aluminum foil, place foil packet into freezer bag.
  4. Freeze until ready to cook the dolmades (stuffed grape leaves).
