Mask Mandate In San Leandro, Alameda County Lifts

SAN LEANDRO, CA — As COVID-19 cases continue to decline in San Leandro and Alameda County, the Public Health Department is lifting the local Health Officer Order that required masks in most indoor public settings. The order is officially rescinded at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday.

This brings Alameda County back into alignment with California’s face masking guidance.

While the order is being lifted, both the State and Alameda County continue to recommend the use of masks indoors in public settings.

On Thursday, Alameda County moved from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's “High” (Orange) COVID-19 Community Level to “Moderate” (Yellow).

According to a release from the county, "Local wastewater data, which provides information about the amount of COVID-19 circulating in the community even when reported case information is incomplete, supports these trends."

The county reminds residents that indoor masking is still required by the State for everyone, regardless of vaccination status, in health care settings, long-term care facilities, correctional facilities and homeless shelters.

Since January 1, COVID-19 is blamed for 328 Alameda County deaths.
