SAN LEANDRO, CA — The City of San Leandro celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Lewelling Interim Housing and Drop-In Center earlier this month.

The City acquired the former Nimitz Motel in 2022, and received over $9.3 million from California’s Department of Housing and Community Development for acquisition, renovation, and operations of the center.

The facility provides 29 units of temporary housing and a daytime drop-in center for unhoused individuals.
