Suspect Charged In Deadly Bay Area Freeway Shooting
If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
OAKLAND, CA —The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office announced it has filed murder charges against a prior felon in connection with a deadly freeway shooting.
Nathaniel McCowan, 49, has been charged with one count of murder, one count of corporal injury to a relationship partner, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon with priors, all felonies.
If convicted and sentenced of all charges, McCowan faces up to 56 years to life in prison.

According to prosecutors, on Feb. 26, 2023, McCowan shot and killed his wife, Laketha McCowan, on the eastbound shoulder of I-580 near the Edwards Avenue off-ramp.
