Tales (Or Is It Tails?) From The Trail Cam: Photos Of The Day
A trail cam set up in a San Leandro backyard catches the comings-and-goings of nearby wildlife through the night.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro resident Miyo Burnett used to wonder about the shenanigans that took place in her backyard at night — with buckets overturned, hoses moved, a perch from the birdbath tossed to the ground, and partially eaten garden produce left behind. Her family gave her a trail cam as a gift so she could see her visitors.
It turns out that a parade of small mammals regularly pass over her deck, with the birdbath an apparent source of water for many animals.
Sometimes the trail cam only snaps a handful of photos overnight. At the beginning of this month, when daytime temperatures were hovering around 100 degrees, the trail cam took an astounding 241 photos in a single night. That bird bath was an enticing watering hole.
The most popular animals are possums, raccoons, skunks and various neighborhood cats. Her own cat, Buddy, stays indoors overnight. Here is a sampling of photos from the trail cam, which also lets Miyo know what time the fog rolls in.
Thank you for sharing your fascinating photos with Patch readers, Miyo.
