Could San Marino Family's Aloe Gel Cure Alopecia Symptoms?

Teen brothers Jeffrey and Jason Law are conducting studies to see if their pharmacist father's aloe gel can help with hair loss.

San Marino brothers Jeffrey and Jason Law have an extracurricular activity that, it's safe to say, is very different from other high school students'.

They're conducting medical research and publishing their results online via YouTube. Specifically, the brothers are testing whether aloe vera can play a role in regrowing hair and stopping hair loss.

They're not doing it for an assignment or school science fair. Rather, they wanted to help their father, according to an article appearing this week in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. Their father, a pharmacist, experimented with aloe on himself and created an all-natural gel he calls Resurrect Hair Gel, the article reported.

Jason explains on the video that they've been following three subjects who are participating in year-long study. Each month, the subjects receive a tube with a half ounce of Resurrect Hair Gel.

Subjects use the product once a day, applying it and leaving it on for 12 to 14 hours before washing it off, Jeffrey said in the video.

The study began in June and participants recieved their first tube of gel in July.

"Every three months, we check in with our participants to record observations," Jason says in the video.

"At three months, all  three of our participants observed small improvements in growth and decreased hair loss. And after six months, all three participants also observed significant improvements in growth."

The study's next checkpoint is due in April.

The extremely small sample size was due to the difficulty in finding willing participants.

"When we were still trying to find volunteers, we discovered it's very hard because it's an awkward subject to even start talking about hair loss in general," Jason told the Tribune.
