May 7, Boy Scouts of America, 22nd Annual Women of Eagle Scout Brunch

"Wind Under Their Wings" committee enlisted author Lian Dolan to talk about her recently published Lost and Found in Paris.

AUTHOR LIAN DOLAN TO ADDRESS WOMEN OF EAGLE SCOUTS AT ANNUAL LUNCHEON

Guests at the twenty-second annual Greater Los Angeles Area Council of Boy Scouts of America Women of Eagle Scout Brunch, Wind Under Their Wings, will be treated to an elegant and motivating event on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Church, 778 South Rosemead Blvd., Pasadena. A reception will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by a brunch and the program at 11:15 a.m. The celebration will end at 1:30 p.m.

Local Boy Scouts will greet guests during the hosted reception and will usher them into the dining room for a delicious brunch. Scouts from Rose Bowl District, Troop 359, will lead the pledge of allegiance, followed by a memorable rendition of the National Anthem played on the bugle by Bryan Rose. There will also be vocal musical entertainment provided by Gracie Modean a Senior at San Marino High School.

Liang Dickson, of Troop 509G will share her experiences, as one of the first girls accepted into the Boy Scout program in 2019, up the path to the rank of Eagle. She achieved the rank in just twenty-four months, although she has embraced the scouting program since age twelve participating alongside her brothers. She earned twenty-two merit badges, was a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, Patrol Leader, and was accepted into Order of the Arrow. A graduate of Crescenta Valley High School, she is taking a gap year and will then enter Pasadena City College.

The Invocation will be presented by Eagle Scout Father Kevin Rettig.

Scout Executive of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council, Jeff Sulzbach, will give the annual “State of the San Gabriel Valley Council”. Jeff joined the Council in 2019 after serving as the Scout Executive in Hawaii. Scouting has been part of Jeff's life since he joined Cub Scouts at age seven and has worn a Scout uniform ever since. His core values were formed by Scouting. He is a second-generation Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, and Wood Badge trained. He joins in partnership with the volunteers and staff of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council to deliver quality Scouting experiences to the young people of the communities they serve. Chairman of the Board, John Johnson, will also be present to welcome the Women of Eagle Scouts.

Capping the brunch will be a motivating talk presented by author Lian Dolan. She is the author of four best selling novels, Helen of Pasadena, Elizabeth the First Wife, The Sweeney Sisters, and recently published Lost and Found in Paris. She has written regular columns for Pasadena Magazine, O Magazine and Working Mother Magazine. She is the creator, producer, and host of Satellite Sisters, the award-winning podcast she created with her four real sisters. Lian graduated from Pomona College with a degree in Classics. She lives in Pasadena with her husband, Berick Treidler. She has two adult sons and a senior German shepherd. Her latest book, Lost and Found in Paris, will be available for purchase and personalization by Lian at the brunch.

This year’s committee under the leadership of Chairman, Suko Gotoh of Glendale, includes Avery Barth, Kathy Bayle, Janice Conzonire, Sallie Determan, Vicki Elliott, Mary Falkenbury, Lynn Hatashita-Jung, Connie Knott, Ann Kunitake, Mona Mapel, Patricia Tom Mar, Leigh Olivar, Pam Osgood, Karen Quon, Helen Kim Spitzer, Valerie Gumbiner Weiss, Karen Wicke, and Julie Wong Tam of San Marino; Jane Laudeman, of Pasadena; Ellen Chiechi, Janet Orswell, of Arcadia; Vivian Chan of San Gabriel; Kathy Vine of Temple City, Cindy Sercel of Lakeview Terrace, and Brenda Pieroni. The committee is advised by Development Director, Diana Bates. The committee welcomes the community to attend and honor the Women Behind the Eagle Scouts. The cost is $75 per person and includes pre-luncheon refreshments, brunch, mementos, and supports the Boy Scouts of America.
