118 Traffic Citations Issued Tuesday In These 2 Bay Area Cities: Police

This was part of a special deployment aimed at specific areas in San Mateo County.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Sheriff’s deputies and police officers from 18 different San Mateo County agencies issued 118 citations Tuesday in Woodside and San Carlos as part of a special traffic enforcement operation, police said.

On Tuesday, traffic deputies and officers participated in San Mateo County’s Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.), which looks to increase traffic safety and awareness in “trouble spots” throughout the county, police said.

This particular operation focussed on Woodside and San Carlos.

Police made an estimated 128 traffic stops and issued 118 citations which included:

  • 48 for speaking on the phone or texting while driving,
  • 31 for failing to stop at a stop sign
  • 13 for unsafe speed
  • Five for failure to obey a sign/traffic control device
  • Four for vehicles in bicycle lanes
  • Four for driving with an obstruction in the
  • Four for seatbelt/car seat violations
  • Four for no proof of insurance
  • Two for expired registration
  • One for crossing a double yellow line
  • One for an unlicensed driver
  • One for miscellaneous equipment violations

This was the third deployment of S.T.E.P. in 2025.

The Atherton Police Department, Belmont Police Department, Brisbane Police Department, Burlingame Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Colma Police Department, Daly City Police Department, East Palo Alto Police Department, Foster City Police Department, Hillsborough Police Department, Menlo Park Police Department, Pacifica Police Department, Redwood City Police Department, San Bruno Police Department, San Mateo County Public Safety Communications, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, San Mateo Police Department and South San Francisco Police Department.
