12-Year-Old Accused Of Stabbing Boy At San Mateo Park: Police

San Mateo police allege a 12-year-old stabbed another young person in Central Park Monday night, then fled on a bicycle.

SAN MATEO, CA — A San Mateo boy faces an attempted murder charge after authorities allege the 12-year-old stabbed another boy in Central Park on Monday night.

In a news release, police said a 911 caller reported a stabbing near 50 East 5th Avenue shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday. Several officers rushed to the scene and found a juvenile in the park with a stab wound on the left side of his body. Police provided first aid until medics arrived to take the boy to the hospital.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed the suspect and victim knew each other, helping officers identify a 12-year-old who fled the scene on a bicycle. Detectives searched the area and interviewed several witnesses, and officers eventually found the young suspect walking along North Humboldt Street.
