203 Citations Issued In Bay Area Traffic Violation Enforcement Operation
The County has been conducting operations in what they consider trouble spots in several towns.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Using a phone while driving, failing to stop at stop signs and speeding were just some of the violations police issued citations during a traffic enforcement operation Tuesday in San Carlos and San Mateo.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office conducted the operations as part of their Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program. This was the seventh S.T.E.P. deployment of 2025.
Police issued 203 citations, including 101 for using a phone while driving, 26 for failing to stop at a stop sign, 12 for speeding, nine for expired registration, eight for no proof of insurance, six to unlicensed drivers, four for seatbelt violations, three for failing to follow traffic lights and an additional 34 for other various violations.

"The participating deputies and officers remained committed to making a high volume of traffic stops in this coordinated saturation effort while maintaining the highest levels of community awareness and professionalism. The San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriffs Association, and The California Highway Patrol have committed to this important safety initiative," police said.
