5 Peninsula Suspects Arrested On Weapons Charges: Cops

All five suspects were detained after a brief foot chase, police said. Four of the suspects are juveniles.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Five Peninsula suspects including four juveniles were arrested on weapons charges last week, police said.

Fernando HernandezMaldonado, 22, was arrested on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, among other charges, the Redwood City Police Department said Thursday in a news release.

The four juvenile suspects were arrested on suspicion of being a minor in possession of a handgun and possession of brass knuckles among other charges, police said. They were booked into the San Mateo County Youth Services Facility.

The arrests were made at around 3:40 p.m. Friday in Courthouse Square area of downtown Redwood City, police said.

The RCPD’s undercover Street Crimes Suppression Team on was conducting a pre-event safety enforcement for an event in the downtown area when they observed the five suspects passing a handgun back and forth, police said

The undercover SCST officers alerted uniformed officers assigned to the Departments Downtown Services Unit to coordinate contact with the armed suspects.

Officers recovered a loaded, .40-caliber Glock handgun with a 20-round extended magazine, a pair of brass knuckles and a realistic Glock replica looking pellet gun, police said.

The Glock replica pellet gun had been modified to look like a real gun by removing the manufacture’s orange safety alert tip at the end of the barrel, according to police.

The recovered Glock gun is unregistered and had a magazine capable of holding 21 bullets, police said.

“This operation is a part of an-going effort by the Redwood City Police Department to enhance the safety of the downtown area for anyone who wants to spend time there and enjoy the peaceful activities of the area,” police said in a statement.
